Edinburgh born Hibernian supporter Bobby Combe played an integral part in the club's post war success. The former Inveresk Thistle player was signed on the same day as Gordon Smith in 1941 and gave the Easter Road side sterling service until leaving to briefly manage Dumbarton in 1957.

The winner of three Championship medals with Hibs, Combe started his professional career as an inside forward but moved to left half to make way for Bobby Johnstone in 1949.
He won the first of his three full caps in the 2-0 defeat by England in April 1948 alongside the Hibs full back pairing of Jock Govan and Davie Shaw. He would make two other appearances for Scotland that same year against Belgium and Switzerland.
A highly versatile player who could fit into any of the forward positions if required, it was often said the celebrated forward line should have been referred to as the 'Famous Six'.
