Born in Lurgan in 1907, Jones had eight years experience with Linfield before joining Hibs in 1936 for £5000, at that time the Club's highest ever transfer fee.

Jones was described at the time as 'signed to help the club in their fight against relegation, the stylish player has more than twenty appearances for the full international side as well as several Inter League honours. He was also capped five times as an amateur'.

After leaving Easter Road in 1937, he saw service with Gjenavon and Bath City.
